October 2014

Aurora Hostel. Our annual trip to Aurora hostel was another great success.

August 2014

We went on the Phoenix challenge. Unfortunately we all got sick on the first day and had to pull out. We were devastated. In saying that the scouts had built a fantastic site and were doing very well. If they had managed to complete the weekend they could have achieved Gold standard.

County Cup 2014 May 2nd - May 4th

This year we entered 3 teams into the County cup and they came 1st, 2nd and 3rd out of 11 teams from the County. This is a fantastic achievement for Kilmacud scouts and all we have to do now is keep up the standard (or raise it even more).

David's patrol came 1st and his team was Site 1

Gavin's patrol came 2nd and his team was site 3

Aisling's patrol came 3rd and her team was site 10

Beckittsfield April 11th - April 13th

We headed to Beckittsfield for the second year in a row now as it is a great place. This time it was easier to find as we headed earlier and we had daylight. We set up camp and settled down for another great weekend camping.

County Mountain Challenge 2014 Feb 28th - March 2nd

17 of our scouts went on the mountain challenge. We met in Crone Car park at 6ish on the Friday evening and then proceeded up the Wicklow way in the dark to the back of Powerscourt waterfall. We set up camp and went to bed at the ripe old hour of 11.

On Saturday morning we headed off in 2 groups (Mt. Merrion patrol headed off before us)and proceeded up towards Maulin. As we descended the saddle between the spot height and Tonduff we hit plenty of boggy land and it became an ordeal to move around it.

We eventually hit the top of Tonduff and met up with the 1st Kilmacud group, after a while at the top we descend the boggy mountain to the military road and then walk the long road to the campsite 2.

We found a "river" at the foot of Knocknagun and set up our tents on the boggy foothill. We cooked up our dinner with the boggy water and were all in our tents by 9pm.

We got up Saturday and headed up Knocknagun and started the LONG walk back to Crone wood via Prince William's seat and the Wicklow way. We eventually got back (even with the wrong turn) and parents were waiting to bring all us tired walkers home

Founder's Day Feb 23rd 2014

The Scouts and Rovers headed up to Larch hill on this Sunday to take part in Founder's day activities. Some of the scouts did not take part in the bases but were responsible for lighting and running the fire for when the bases were finished. The scouts lit a fantastic fire and ran the campfire brilliantly.
